I was one of the “older men” for twenty years. Now I just stonewall them when they get too close.

Did You Have Good Relationships With The Elders?
by minimus inmy experience was that most jws wanted to have an elder “friend” just in case they got into any “trouble “.kinda like knowing that certain cop who might get you out of a jam.
.
of course there was another group who did everything they could to either kiss the elders’ ass or stonewall them anytime they came snooping around.. how did you and the “older men” get along?.

Did you enjoy some of these back then?
by Mandrake ini was bored to death this sunday, and suddenly i remembered that it could be worse if having to attend the public meeting on a sunday, even worse, not being assigned to the sound department, accomodating, being the mic guy, or reading the wt at the platform... then i realized that i hated just "attending" and sitting at meetings, those "privileges" were the only thing i enjoyed and made my last months inside bearable.... did you enjoy these assignments?

Blues brother I get it. I was also secretary for a while. Taking on a velociraptor role at the end of the month, hunting people down for reports. Having so many crap things to do after the meeting while your wife seethed in the car waiting for you to finish. Other elders pontificating endlessly or the coordinator suddenly calling an emergency elders meeting to discuss some infringement of the rules which meant you got home at silly o’ clock.

I Got Messed Up on My Medications ... I Knew I Had to Watch the Assembly On-Line This Weekend
by RubaDub inwhat a weekend.
i have my normal medications to take; one white pill, one purple pill, one blue pill, one yellow pill ... you get the idea.. but having to watch the regional assembly on-line had me stressed.
i now realized i accidentally took too many of those big purple pills.

Our Coordinator of the elders just asked our WhatsApp group if we wanted badge cards to wear to watch next week’s installment of the convention online! As we live in a hot country I asked my wife how on earth could I do that without drawing blood as I watched the first session topless (gasp) in my oldest shorts!

They Are Going To Start Clamping Down With Staying At Home - Local Needs + GB Update #4
by thedepressedsoul inmany of us have watched the gb #4 update.
most of us jumped for joy when they basically said that there will be no meeting in person for a long time to come.. one aspect we overlooked was how hard they hit home the "love of neighbor".
how this "love" is what makes a true christian and as a result our love for our neighbors will motivate us to stay at home.. well now they released a letter that is instructing all kh's to view this video during their local needs part.

I started with the zoom meetings on camera but couldn’t keep a straight face for long. Now I log in without video or mic on and just make sure I close it down at the end before the after meeting fellowship. Long may it continue!

Do you feel that you are really YOU?
by UnshackleTheChains ini am interested in finding out how you view yourself.
are really you when it comes to every day interactions....ie when at work, with family or friends, or if attending meetings?.
if still attending, do you feel you are not the real you at meetings?

Great question! I used to feel I was mostly myself when I believed it all, but acting a bit as I couldn't ever fully immerse myself in the bubble. In the last three years l have resigned as an elder, almost stopped participating in meetings and now find a lot of meeting content hard to swallow. Now I have to put on a mask for family reasons but my mind is much freer. But it does feel very unreal now stepping into the hall, a place I used to feel I was at peace in.
The bros don't know how to react. I am not following the script!

Did you have a favorite pub . . .
by compound complex inpublication, that is?.
i just found all scripture is inspired of god and beneficial in storage.
i enjoyed studying it, as well as make sure of all things, hold fast to what is fine.. our thinking has changed, of course, but, back then, did you have a wt publication you especially liked?.

Personal favorite is Commentary on the book of James. Great book. Apparently written by Ed Dunlap, friend of Ray Franz, also one of those purged in the 80s.

Cyprus JW's Military Service
by snare&racket ini work with a nurse who served for 2 years in the army of cyprus as is compulsory in that country.
i happened to ask about jw's and their consequential punishment for not doing it.
he laughed and stated that since 2009 they have to do it and that he personally knew several that 'served.

I would be surprised if this is true. I have Greek friends (I know it is a different country) and all the bros there do alternative service. If they did the actual military service they would be in front of a jc. All of them used to go to jail when there was no alternative service in the past. So something tells me the guys mentioned have never been baptized.I can't see the situation in Cyprus being any different from Greece or other places in terms of the org's view.

Skinned and Thrown About.....
by Tech49 inthis is a little long, but stick with me.. if you recall, when the building work was in full swing at the new lakefront villa (warwick), wt was having workers come and they would put them up for a year, or more, while they were providing "volunteer services".
with that, and the impending need for hundreds and hundreds of new khs in the usa territory, the congregations were abuzz with the need for "continued construction volunteers".
recently, as many of you know, wt headquarters has sent pretty much everyone home, and is no longer needing workers at the new warwick site, as the building is mostly complete, with the dedication coming up later this year.

We have a couple in our hall who are trying to put on a brave face. Special pioneers for years. Then deleted. Now struggling on low wages. But he is on the platform all the time. Nice, genuine guy. I wonder how he feels inside. But still ultra loyal. The whole facade is crumbling in front of me and it's not a pretty sight. I have been a witness for over 35 years and only in the last 3 have I 'seen the light.'

Sisters running microphones?
by NikL inso our sunday meeting was on the 25th (christmas) and my active jw wife and i were out of town enjoying some family time with relatives.. apparently there were many others in our congregation that missed as well.
so few were there in fact that sisters ran the mics.
(actually it was a sister running one of the two mics) a friend of my wife commented to her about how the brothers just aren't stepping up and it "makes her want to cry.

Passive resistance is what it is all about for me. I was an elder up to a few years ago. Did it all. Now I am still in for family reasons. I do mics and some student talks but no way would I reach out again. I've seen that man behind the curtain.
